Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, (G.S.I.C.)
Vancouver, Burnaby St. Marguerite d'Youville
Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception are the English speaking branch of Grey Sisters, founded in 1926. Our Motherhouse is in Pembroke, Ontario. We are the sixth autonomous branch coming from the Sisters of Charity of Montreal (Grey Nuns), a Canadian Foundation of active women religious which was begun by Marguerite d'Youville (1701-1771) in Montreal, Quebec. Marguerite was canonized on December 9,1990 and is the only Canadian born Saint in our Church.

From the beginning Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception were teachers or nurses, or involved in caring for poor children, working with the elderly, or on the Missions In China, Japan, Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. Today most are involved in various forms of ministry - in parishes, as social workers, in spiritual direction/retreat ministry, pastoral care to the elderly, single parents, social justice issues. After the example of St. Marguerite, we are called to respond to the needs of the poor of our day. We still have Sisters working for the poor In Santo Domingo and in the Bahamas.
