Franciscan Friars  (O.F.M.)
Immaculate Heart of Mary, Vancouver
Our Lady of Lourdes, Coquitlam

Founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1209, the Franciscans (Order of Friars Minor) came to Western Canada (Lamoureux, Alberta) in 1908 from Quebec. In time they expanded west arriving in Vancouver in 1924.

The primary ministry of the friars is first to live the Gospel in the vision of St. Francis and to give witness to this in a life of humility, fraternal community and in a spirit of prayer. This "ministry of presence" flows from our life of prayer and is to permeate all our other ministries. The friars are engaged in a wide variety of ministries from teaching, counseling, chaplaincy to retreat centres, and parishes.
